Statement Necklaces for under $50

Geez, it was hard to pick just a few necklaces for this post. Pretty sure I could create a whole blog on nothing but statement necklaces. There are just so so many to choose from, and quite frankly, it stresses me out. All the options with colors and sizes are getting a little overwhelming!

As great as these statement necklaces are, you have to assume it’s just a fabulous trend. We’ve gone through so many necklace trends lately — from quirky pendants on a long chain, to dainty necklaces, to now huge over-the-top glamorous necklaces. While I am head over heels in love with this trend, I don’t want to dish out $50+ on a necklace that I know may not be in style next spring. I guess I’d rather have several statement necklaces to choose from than only being able to purchase 1-2.

Thoughts? Are trendy statement necklaces like this something you splurge on? Be sure to keep up with SF on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Pinterest!

Outfit: Red, white, & blue

Top: Forever 21 (similar) | Polka Dot Jeans: Belk (similar) | Shoes: Target | Necklace: JCrew (and half off!) | Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson

So I finally have my Fourth of July outfit picked out, but still no clue what I’m actually doing for the holiday. What’s everyone else doing? Have your outfit picked out? This is as close to an American flag as I could get.

I picked up this JCrew necklace on the way home from the beach this weekend. I’ve been wanting a gold chunky chain necklace and finally found the perfect one-and at half off! Go snag that baby right now!

Hope you have a safe & happy Fourth of July! Be sure to keep up with SF on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Pinterest!

Cut Out + Stripes

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

Dress: Belk (and on sale!) | Clutch: candy apple :: a blog shop | Watch: Kate Spade | Shoes: Target (similar)

The cut out dress trend really scares me- mostly because a lot of dresses have the tummy area cut out. So I really liked that this dress was on trend but cut out the top and back- areas I’m more comfortable with. Also, I just loved the mixed patterns and colors. I feel like my first instinct was to pair the dress with black shoes and black accessories, but on second thought I decided to bring out the brighter summery colors (y’all know that’s a challenge for me).

I bought this clutch last week from candy apple :: a blog shop through a Facebook sale while driving down the road (not safe- I know, but I had to have it). I’ve always been hesitant to purchase things through Facebook, but now that I’ve done it and see how easy it is, it could be very dangerous for my checking account. It’s really all Paypal’s fault. It makes everything SO freakin’ easy. Like easy enough I can shop while driving.

Open Back Dress Trend + Big Announcement

Friday, June 21st, 2013

The thing I love about this trend is the variety. All five of these dresses have open backs but all are different. It’s really up to you if you want a lot of skin showing or just a little. Or at the top or the bottom. I think my favorite is the ASOS wrap dress (No. 4) with just a teeny tiny part of the back showing. Plus, one way to stay cool this summer is to just not have a back to your dress at all. Problem solved!

Now for the BIG announcement! On Tuesday I accepted a new teaching position in Baton Rouge, so it looks like I’m headed South again! I’ll be teaching 7th grade English at the most amazing school, and I could not be more excited to move back to BR where my little blog first began. But be prepared for future tweets/posts/Instagrams of stressed out Leslie making yet another move…

Some Much Needed Beach Inspiration

My first week of summer break has certainly been a busy one. I spent a long Memorial Day Weekend in New Orleans for the Southern Girl Blogging Community Meetup. It was so great to get to chat with other bloggers and see what makes them tick. If you’re a Southern Blogger, be sure to join the Facebook group to stay in the loop. And you can see photos from our first event on Foster the Fashion. I got lots of goodies that I can’t wait to share with you guys!

The rest of my week hasn’t been nearly as exciting. As you know, I’m being forced out of my current home because my landlady decided she wants to move back in (how rude). So I’ve spent this week packing millions of boxes it seems like. I have no idea how I’ve managed to obtain so much junk over just two years. It was the same way with packing up my classroom last week. I really will have my own episode of Hoarders one day. You just wait.

I’m trying really hard to get rid of clothes that I know I will never wear again. I guess it’s time I stop pretending I will ever fit into size small and size 2 clothes again. What do you do with all your old clothes? They are still in good condition. A lot of them only worn once. Any ideas??

Anyway, after this week I definitely need some beach time. Unfortunately, that’s not until the end of the month. The pool in the backyard will do for now. Hope you enjoy these pretty pictures today. And have a happy weekend.

I love the idea of mixing floral denim pants with a stripe shirt like in the last look. And I adore the satchel from Warehouse and I’m anxiously awaiting its arrival to my doorstep!

Speaking of doorstep deliveries… my new Nikon came in the mail yesterday! I can’t wait to use it for upcoming outfit posts. So if you have dslr tips, tip away!
