What’s in my RocksBox?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

Let me tell you about my new favorite way to shop and wear jewelry! What if for $19/month you could receive hand-selected jewelry just for you, wear it as much and as long as you’d like, swap it when you’re ready, and buy it if you wanted to keep it?! Well, that’s exactly what RocksBox does! It’s like the Netflix of jewelry and who doesn’t love Netflix and jewelry?

To start, you take a style survey telling RocksBox exactly what you like. Three pieces are then hand-selected just for you that you can wear together or separately. Each box averages around $200.

Then, you wear your pieces as much as you’d like and send them back whenever you’re ready-days or months later! It’s $19/month either way! If you want to purchase a piece, you always get 20% off retail price as a member.

Shipping is free both ways, so you just drop your box in the mail whenever you’re ready… Hooray for stress free shipping!

So far I’ve received one box and kept it for a week or so now just because I like wearing the pieces! Mine included this dainty little black quartz necklace, these pink statement earrings, and my favorite little gold cuff ring.

If you’d like to try out RocksBox, as a Southern Flair reader you can get a free month by signing up here!

Introducing Culture Shock’s Rani Collection

Y’all know I’m a huge fan of this New Orleans-based ethnic jewelry company. Ever since I met Christine last year, I’ve been so amazed to see how much she’s grown Culture Shock. And she’s at it again.

In 2013 she started designing her own jewelry and has since created four collections, including her newest collection Rani. Her inspiration for this line came from Queen Rania of Jordan’s crown. She started sketching and ended up with a beautiful necklace and earrings (Anna from Running on Plenty styled the necklace here!).

Christine recently launched her Kickstarter campaign to fund a new 3D software, trade shows, and a lookbook. The video below really tells the story behind Culture Shock and its mission to appreciate and share other cultures. Plus, just seeing Christine sketch out her designs is pretty awesome (especially for me since I can’t even draw a good stick person).

I hope you’ll take a minute to check out Culture Shock and support this amazing local business. You can also see the line in action in New Orleans Fashion Week this month!

SHOP Accessory Mercado

Sunday, November 3rd, 2013

Did you ever watch Blue’s Clues? Lately, I’ve been getting the “Mail Song” stuck in my head. “Here’s the mail. It never fails. It makes me wanna wag my tail…” Remember that? No? Maybe?

Anyway, I’ve just been really excited to check my mail lately (weird, I know), and I can’t wait to show you some of the fun, fall trends that have been arriving via the postal service (or Fedex.. or something).

I’m too excited about this amazing necklace from Accessory Mercado that I couldn’t even wait to share it in an outfit post. I had to share it now. (Outfit post coming soon!)

Accessory Mercado is an accessory flash sale on Facebook and Instagram. They offer amazing designer-inspired pieces and great prices. The flash sales begin every Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at noon. There are limited quantities, so the first person to comment gets the goods. AND all items ship free!

Are flash sales on Facebook something you participate in? I’ve done a couple and they’re so much fun. After seeing Accessory Mercado’s fall lookbook, I’ll definitely be ready on Wednesday nights!

Have a happy Sunday! Be sure to follow SF on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Pinterest!

Candy Shop Vintage: ‘On Forever 21, Splurging And Why Copycats Suck’

Friday, July 19th, 2013

These necklaces may look familiar. I did a splurge vs. save post earlier in the summer comparing these two necklaces- one Forever 21 ($10) and the other Candy Shop Vintage ($140).

My post caught the attention of Candy Shop Vintage Owner & Designer Deirdre Zahl and prompted her to write her own post about why her necklace is more expensive and all around the better choice.

Deirdre brings up some very important points in her post that all Forever 21 frequents should see. Deirdre focuses on jewelry that you will have for a long time-not some trendy pieces you will throw away. I hope you’ll take a minute to check out her post because it is a very important topic and you will see how it can be very frustrating for independent designers and small business owners.

See her full post here.
