ETCH Studio’s TERRA Collection

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

ETCH Studio, a Baton Rouge-based jewelry company started last summer when Zoe Ganch received a pair of geometric laser cut earrings and a necklace from her best friend Mallory Estopinal. The two girls, who currently study architecture at LSU, became increasingly interested in product design, graphic design, and jewelry design. With the discovery of Instagram shop communities, the girls decided to test out their initial designs, and ETCH was born.

The girls operated their business on Instagram for six months, growing their brand until the launch of their official website this month (www.shopetch.com) along with their new fall Terra collection.

“Our new collection is inspired by mythology,” Zoe said. “We named the collection ‘terra’ because it represents the goddess of the earth.”

The primary materials for the fall collection are leather and wood, both earth materials with natural vibes in the design, she said.

“We were so excited to get our hands on some leather for the new collection, as it offers a whole new style that were were able to explore.” Zoe said.

The girls agreed that studying architecture has helped them fine tune their personal style and design aesthetic. They like to pull the clean lines and simple geometry from their architectural design education and apply that to their jewelry.

“To us, design is design,” Zoe said. “Whether someone has an eye for graphics or building design, there’s always a way to translate that vision onto another product or idea.”

While both girls have certain roles in the day-to-day business, Zoe and Mallory both enjoy taking the time to sit down and collaborate on ideas for designs.

The design process begins with working together to create a wide variety of designs, then they pick a few that they’re drawn to. Once the design is finalized, it’s drawn out digitally into a design drawing software called Autocad.

“We use this software quite often in our architecture education, and it’s a widely used program in the architecture profession,” Zoe said. “From Autocad, we can plot the design onto the laser cutter-just like sending a document to a printer.”

The final product is cut from high-quality hardwoods-usually maple, walnut, and lacewood- and leather. After the pieces are laser cut, Zoe and Mallory hand paint and assemble them.

They also design and laser cut all their business cards and earring backs.

“We like to have a hand in all of our final products that we send to our customers,” Zoe said. “We think it makes it a little more personal and allows us to really make use of the laser cutter technology!”

ETCH is sold exclusively online and at Mod Salon in Baton Rouge.

My Favorite Blues Jean Bar Express Box Outfit!

Monday, June 23rd, 2014

Product Information: Henry & Belle Super Skinny jeans in Orchid and AS by DF Flavia Tank | Both items were part of The Blues Jean Bar Express Box!

Good morning! Last week I introduced y’all to the Blues Jean Bar Express Box program. My box included 6 outfits for me to try on and I absolutely loved them all! The program is just like having your own personal stylist, and my stylist did an amazing job on picking out the perfect items for me. And as much as I loved all my outfits, I reeeally loved this outfit! It was definitely my favorite! Y’all, that zipper detail is to diiie for! I added my fun heart-shaped sunglasses, a clutch from Bayou Gypsy (based in Monroe, LA), and the heels. I didn’t want to take away from the amazing zipper top, so I accessorized with one simple bracelet.

My photographer Katie and I actually took these photos at my house since I was trying on everything in my box. It was a really long day with wardrobe changes, and we stepped up our game a bit with lighting and other photography things I’ll never understand. So it called for some silliness at the end (plus, I think the heat was just really getting to us)! What would I do without Katie there to capture these lovely moments below?

Have a great Monday and keep up with SF on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Pinterest! And find more info on the Blues Jean Bar program here!

Hey, Penelope ‘Louisiana’ Tank Giveaway

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

Today, I’m so excited to share this Hey, Penelope ‘My Heart is in Louisiana’ tank and give one lucky reader her very own too! You may remember when I styled it with floral shorts for my What To Wear To A Crawfish Boil post. Now that I’ve had this tank for a week, I’ve already managed to wear it twice!

The first time I paired it with white denim shorts and my black and white polka dot Kate Spade Keds. Today, I went for a totally different look with bright orange denim shorts and a chambray sleeveless button-up shirt. In Louisiana it isn’t always practical to try layering in the summer, but this outfit was still really cool and comfortable for June!

Be sure to check out all Hey, Penelope’s tees and tanks and enter below to win this Louisiana tank!

Me & Amelie G: American Prep Feature

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

Good morning! Today I wanted to share some of the photos from our most recent Amelie G Street Style shoot with the Baton Rouge Fashion Week model of the year Faith Laureles!

For May we styled this American Prep tunic, which is perfect for spring and summer. I wanted to mix it up a bit and give the dress more of a bohemian vibe with the hat and accessories! You can see the full feature on American Prep on Amelie G’s site here.

And here’s one last behind the scenes shot of American Prep designer Nikki Manuel and I trying to figure out my new dressing room tent!

Styling the Summer Skort

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

Product Information:
Skort from Target (also comes in pink) | Tank from Forever 21 | Wedges from Marc Jacobs | Bow Bracelet from Groopdealz | Bar III Necklace from Macy’s | Clutch from Target | Lipstick from Kismet Cosmetics

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day Holiday! I’ve been crazy busy with wrapping up the end of the school year and enjoying Bayou Country Superfest this weekend. It’s officially summertime, but as a teacher I feel like I should be a little less busy. My June calendar is kind of stressing me out! I’m working at a reading camp the next couple of weeks, then I’m off to Seattle, Destin, and finally Europe!

You can bet this skort is making it in my suitcase for every trip this summer. It can be so versatile and easily dressed up or down. The same goes for this Forever 21 tank. I’ve worn it with shorts, jeans, skirts, and now this skort. Both of these items will be easy to pack and not take up a lot of space!

However, I have to say my favorite part of this outfit is my Marc Jacob wedges. I always get excited when I find the perfect outfit to wear these! And to top everything off I put on my Naked Gypsy lipstick by Kismet Cosmetics!
