Now that Spring Break is over, the countdown to summer is ON! But I wanted to go ahead and bring little touches of summer time into my yard a bit early. So far, I’ve added a new grill, this cactus welcome doormat and now these easy DIY Yard Flamingo Flower Planters! Turns out these little guys make the perfect inexpensive planter because they’re hollow and the plastic is thin enough that it’s easy to cut through. This fun DIY costs less than $20 and takes just minutes to make! And there soooo cute!

Here’s What You Need:

  • Flamingo Yard Ornaments (I bought these off Amazon for under $15)
  • A Sharpie
  • Razor Knife
  • Flowers of Your Choice (I used petunias)

Here’s How To Do It:

1- Use a Sharpie to outline where you want to cut the flamingo. I drew a rectangle on the flamingo’s back about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide. I wanted to keep most of his body intact as much as possible with just a small opening on the top for the flowers to stick out!

2- Use your razor knife to poke a hole in the flamingo’s back, then trace along your line. Cut out and remove the small section of plastic. Once you remove the piece of the flamingo’s back, stick that piece to the side to use as a stencil for your second flamingo.

3- Use your razor knife to poke a few additional small holes in the bottom of the flamingo. This will allow the water to drain when you water your flowers. (*pro tip from my dad!)

4- Follow the packaging instructions to stick your legs on the flamingo and stick them in the ground.

5- Fill your flamingos about half way with potting soil. I put as little as possible to keep them from getting too heavy.

6- Place 2-3 flowers into the potting soil.

Then that’s it! You’re all done! Look how cute!!
