Y’all! Today’s post has to be one of my favorites to date. I can’t think of anything better than whipping out the inflatable flamingo in the middle of January and parading it down the street! Clearly, it must be Mardi Gras in Louisiana! To go with the flamingo-theme of Baton Rouge’s Spanish Town parade, I’ve created not one but TWO DIY Graphic Flamingo tanks with quirky little sayings. And the best part… these will transition right into my spring and summer wardrobe once Mardi Gras is over! WIN-WIN!
For the tanks, I hit up Old Navy’s sale section and picked a blush pink and black high-neck swing tank. Then, I ordered both sets of 2-inch iron-on letters from Amazon Prime (white + black). I peeled off the letters I wanted, and simply followed the directions on the package. Super easy!
Disclaimer: The packages don’t come with enough “Ls” for the word flamingle. So instead, I took an extra “T” and cut off one of the sides. It looks just like the “L” and you can’t even tell the difference!

A Note On Not Taking Yourself Too Seriously:
This fun look is such a great reminder of why you can’t always take yourself too seriously! We’re a little over a week or so into the new year, and I have to ask — how’s it going??
I love the beginning of the year. The fresh feeling like anything is possible, a clean slate, and the idea that you’re going to accomplish all your hopes and dreams THIS YEAR. It’s basically magic.
Yea, I totally drink that New Year’s cool-aid too. #NewYearNewMe
But if we’re being honest, sometimes we put way too much pressure on ourselves at the beginning of the year… and ultimately set ourselves up for failure.
The first week, I started off strong with my New Year goals. I went to the gym every day, I woke up at 4AM and tackled my to do list, but this week — I’m already exhausted.
I’ve spent a little too much time playing on Snapchat, I’ve skipped the gym to have drinks with friends (twice) and I slept in this morning… But the REAL problem is that I feel guilty for ALL of that. My to-do list is constantly haunting me in the back of my mind.
So this morning, I decided to add another New Year’s Resolution to my list — to not take myself too seriously. Sometimes the best thing we need is time for ourselves — to relax, to binge on Netflix, to happy hour with friends and to just be human. Forget about the to-do list (it will still be there later — trust me!)
So, let’s take 2017 to have fun, be ourselves and let loose a little. And what better time to celebrate yourself and have a little fun than Mardi Gras??
