Happy May! I’m so excited to kick the month off with a NEW list of 30+ Things To Do In Baton Rouge this month. One of my main missions here on Southern Flair is to help you live your best life right here in Baton Rouge, so I’m super pumped about this new monthly series!
And thanks for the awesome feedback on last month’s list and for the suggestions for this month’s calendar!

Oh, HEY! It’s my fourth favorite holiday of the year — Cinco De Mayo! (Right behind Christmas, Mardi Gras and Fourth of July… if you’re wondering!) Here’s the gist of Cinco De Mayo — any Mexican restaurant you go will be packed. I suggest hitting a restaurant that also has a band or a party-like atmosphere that you can enjoy while you wait on a table. El Paso (4808 S Sherwood Forest Blvd) always has a band, so that two hour wait is at least fun!
If you want to skip the Mexican restaurants, Tin Roof Brewing Co. is also hosting a Cinco De Mayo party from 5-10PM. There will be a live mariachi band, lots of local beer (duh) and Jay Ducote’s Gov’t Tacos!
Saturday, May 6
Another busy weekend here in Baton Rouge! Most importantly, it’s the Kentucky Derby day, so whatever you choose to do should include mint juleps!
If you want to add a little wine to that, there’s a Corked 5K happening! There’s a wine stop in each mile or you can just walk and sip the wine as you go. If you don’t want to be active at all, you can choose just the “Wine Down Only” option, so you still get the wine without the effort! See more info here.
Now, if you want to add tequila and keep the Cinco de Mayo celebration going, Marc Broussard is playing a FREE concert at Velvet Cactus!
There’s also a 90s Bar Crawl happening downtown starting at 2PM. Basically, you get to hop around to different bars jammin’ out to awesome 90s music. There’s also drink specials along the way and even a free welcome drink. See who’s participating here.
Sunday, May 7
It’s the first Sunday of the month, so you get in museums downtown for freeeee! And you can participate in the Warrior Yoga Run for free too! Get your workout in from 8AM -9:30AM.
