Why A Red Stick Spice Cooking Class Is the Perfect Date Idea
Did you know that couples who cook together stay together?! Yep, science says so. Today, I’m sharing our date night at a Red Stick Spice Cooking Class!
On Conrad and I’s first date, he jokingly said that women belong in the kitchen. Now, y’all know me, so I’m sure you can only imagine how I reacted (#girlpower)! Lucky for him, he was totally joking. But ever since then, it’s been an on-going joke of which one of us belongs in the kitchen. Spoiler alert: It’s him. Surprisingly, he’s in the kitchen WAY more than I am — which I’m not even mad about!
In the first couple years of our relationship, we always cooked together on Sunday nights, but now we’ve gotten lazier and Sunday nights are now Chinese takeout nights (not mad about that either!), but we decided to get back in the kitchen together, try out a local spot AND make it a date night all in one!

An Overview of the Red Stick Spice Cooking Class:
We attended the Platters & Boards Class, which started with Anne (the owner of Red Stick Spice Co.) demonstrating how to create the perfect cheese platter.
She taught us all about the cheese options, then the process of building the board by adding something salty, acidic, sweet, crunchy and fresh.
Once her board was done, it was our turn!
As a side note, some of Anne’s cooking classes are “sit, watch and eat” and then some are hands-on where you do the cooking!
This was a hands-on cooking class (no pressure!) where we split into teams based on three different boards: the Brunch Board, the Springtime Celebration Board and the Date Night Board.
You’d think we would have gone with the Date Night Board, but nope — we’re brunch folks, so we went with the brunch board (mostly because we knew spiced praline bacon was involved)!
Our board included deviled eggs, praline bacon, smoky aioli, spiced honey butter, brioche toast points, prosciutto asparagus arugula rolls (my favorite!!!), jelly, cheese, nuts and fruit.
So we cooked, drank wine, mingled and made new friends and then at the end, we got to indulge in ALL three boards.
OMG sooo good!
And we left with ALL the recipes and you’re able to purchase some of the exact ingredients (oils, spices, vinegars, etc.) at Red Stick Spice Co before you leave. So you’re all set to re-create the platters & boards at home!
Why A Cooking Class is the Perfect Date Idea:
1- It was something different and new that we could experience together
2- It’s good for team building (or relationship building?)
3- You still get wine & dinner
4- You learn new tricks you can use at home (and impress your friends!)
5- No clean-up!
So what are your cooking class options?
Red Stick Spice Co. offers lots of cooking class options — everything from vegan and cajun cooking classes to pastries and small plates.
You can see a list of upcoming classes on their schedule here.
When you see one you like, jump on it fast because they tend to sell out!
About Red Stick Spice:
Another reason I love Red Stick Spice Co. is because they’re a local family-owned business from Baton Rouge. They source the best local ingredients they can find and support Louisiana food artisans.
In addition to cooking classes, Red Stick Spice Co. is an entire retail store specializing in oils, vinegar, teas, spices, soup mixes and more.
As a final note, I’d like to say Red Stick Spice Cooking Classes are not just for date nights!
Grab a group of friends, do a team-building class with co-workers, take your mom, go solo — it’s just a fun class no matter who you’re with!
Conrad and I were actually the only couple in our class. There were a group of friends, a mom/daughter, sisters, so it’s definitely for everyone for any occasion when you wanna add a little “spice” to your night! Ha! See what I did there!?
Thanks to Red Stick Spice Co. for having us!!
