Happy November! We’re officially approaching the holiday season and am totally pumped for it! The weather is a little cooler, the leaves are finally starting to change, and I’ve even gotten out sweater or two! I hope you haven’t overdosed on all the pumpkin spice things yet though… because we’ve got a festive November ahead! Forum 35 and Geaux Rouge are hosting Retro Date Night – a fundraiser for St. Vincent de Paul. Basically, you get dressed up in retro clothes for a good cause. You can clean out your closet and donate clothing to St. Vincent de Paul OR purchase any retro clothing from St. Vincent de Paul. Keep your receipt, then go eat at participating restaurants or venues from 6-9PM. They’ll also be giving a percentage back to St. Vincent de Paul. Fight local hunger at the Baton Rouge Community Hunger Walk from 2-4PM. All proceeds will support the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and Holy Grill – a feeding program of the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. If you’ve wanted to learn how to dance, now’s your chance! Louisiana Folk Roots presents the first series of lessons at The Mid-City Ballroom. This 4-week series will focus on the basics of Cajun Dance, including waltz, two-step, and jitterbug. It’s open to all levels and no need to have a partner. More wine! Nottoway Mansion is hosting their second annual Wine Walk tonight! Stroll throughout the mansion’s floors while enjoying 8 wine stations, each with multiple wines for sampling, Hors d’Oeuvres, music by local musicians and costumed antebellum characters. The 12th Annual North Gate Music and Arts Fest is also happening on Chimes St., right at the gates of LSU from 4 – 11 PM. Enjoy music on both a main stage and a singer-songwriter stage, food from local restaurants, a large number of artists selling their creations and Abita beer! More info here.

It’s Veterans Day (see tomorrow for info on the parade).
LSU plays Arkansas at 11AM (booo for early games). But I won’t complain about a chance to tailgate! If you need your purple/gold game day gear, you can still shop the Tailgate Collection.
It’s also day 1 of Mistletoe Market at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium (102 France Street). Get your Christmas shopping done from 9AM – 5PM. Shop gifts, clothing, food and lots more! $6 general admission, plus a portion of the proceeds will benefit children in need. Get more info here.

The Veterans Day Parade is happening downtown near the U.S.S. Kidd at 2PM. They’re also collecting donations of warm clothing, canned goods and new unwrapped toys.
It’s the second and final day of Mistletoe Market at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium (102 France Street). Get in for $6 and start Christmas shopping!
You can also come out in front of the State Capitol and drink beer at the Cap City Beer Fest while supporting Companion Animal Alliance, our local animal shelter. It’s White Light Night in the Mid City Art & Design Cultural District! This is the annual Mid-City art hop and it’s happening from 6-10PM. Local businesses host local artists so you can meet them, shop, enjoy live music and eat! Proceeds from the art festival help purchase public art for the Mid-City area. Tin Roof Brewing Co is also having its last food truck round-up of the season. Old School Eats Foodtruck, Rouge-A-Roux’s, Fete au Fete, Cocoa & Cream Mobile Foods and Catering Service, and Mr. Ronnie’s donuts will be on site from 5-8PM. Celebrating its 31st year, the Turkey Trot returns to Downtown on the morning of Thanksgiving. This race is a local thanksgiving tradition – one that servers the community by keeping them active and fit through racing and partners with the March of Dimes as a fund-raiser to help their organization both financially and by spreading the word about the work they do.
