It always seems Valentine’s Day is overshadowed by Mardi Gras here in Louisiana, so I’m excited for Valentine’s Day to have it’s own special day this year.
I love all things red, pink and heart-shaped in February, and this year Valentine’s Day is combining with one of my other loves — Sunday brunch!
While I hate the idea of over-crowed restaurants and fancy dinners on Valentine’s Day, nothing will stop me from braving the crowds of love birds for some delicious brunch.
We do brunch quite often, so I like the idea of dressing up a bit to make it more of a special occasion. (See my favorite local brunch spots at the bottom of this post!) To me, this rose-pattered dress is the perfect Valentine’s Day brunch dress and it would be great for an evening dinner too! Who knows — I might just wear it all day!

My Favorite Baton Rouge Brunch Spots:
- Capital City Grill in downtown Baton Rouge has the BEST chicken and biscuits. I live for their gravy and crave this meal on a daily basis.
- The Chimes’ Crab Cake Poach has to be another favorite brunch item. Pair it with their cheese grits and hash browns and you won’t need to eat for the rest of the day.
- While I’m a huge fan of the pork belly grilled cheese at Pelican House, their brunch is pretty awesome too. They have mimosas for only $2 and items like fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and French toast bread pudding on the menu.
- If you’re looking for a quaint little brunch atmosphere then Olive or Twist is the place for you. I really love this place for their unlimited mimosas until 4 p.m. Try out their chicken and waffles with the Monica sauce — don’t substitute it for maple syrup (you’ll thank me later)! Another favorite item is the crawfish beignets!
- If you know me, then you know my undying love for Mexican food. So I can’t list my favorite brunch spots without including at least one Mexican restaurant. Lava Cantina at Perkins Rowe is a ton of fun for brunch because you get to combine chips & salsa with mimosas (don’t knock it til you try it!). Plus, there’s a jazz band to complete your Sunday Funday.
