Spring/Summer Trend: Tie to Dye For
Tie Dye is making a yet another comeback this spring, and we’re not talking about the do-it-yourself knots, bleach and dye. For spring 2010 models hit the runway combining classic ’60s hippie inspiration with edgy dresses and accessories. Think Janis Joplin meets 2010. Tie dye is great for the spring because it incorporates bold, psychedelic, multi-colored patterns in loose fitting dresses and tops as seen below.

This season, I’ve seen tie dye dresses and shirts in addition to scarves, skirts, jeans, shorts and jewelry. Check out some of the looks below that incorporate tie-dyed pieces (all under $50!). In Look No. 1, I chose a Chiffon jersey dress that combines the spring pastels with tie dye. I dressed it up by pairing it with a platforms and a clutch, but it can definitely be dressed down with a pair of sandals or casual wedges.
Look No. 1 Product Information: Boohoo Keira Tie Dye Chiffon Jersey dress from stylecompare.co.uk, $18; Cassandra Concealed Platform shoes from very.co.uk, $47; Nica Posie Clutch Purse from johnlewis.com, $43; Metal Rose Cluster Ring from missselfridge.com, $13; Earrings from Topshop, $15
In Look No. 2, I paired tie-dyed denim pants with (yet another) pastel and a 3/4-sleeve jacket for cool spring nights. Again, I dressed the jeans up, but they could easily be dressed down when worn with a fitted tee and flats. Or you can go for the Rihanna/Ciara/Fergie-look and pair the jeans with a button-up or sheer white blouse.
Look No. 2 Product Information: Armand Basi Embellished T-shirt from theoutnet.com; South Puff Sleeve Jersey Jacket from very.co.uk, $37; Revolt Bleached Stretch Skinny Jeans from Alloy, $20; Studded Strappy Heels from Forever 21, $32.80; Lace Print Clutch from Wet Seal, $7.50; Skinny Glitter Belt from Forever 21, $4.80
I kept it casual in Look No. 3. I paired a trendy summer top with tie-dyed shorts. The shorts are certainly a more subtle approach to the tie dye trend than the jeans in Look No. 2. This look is great for a hot day out and about. You’ll stay cool, comfortable and chic.
Look No. 3 Product Information: Flower & Stripe Tank from Tillys, $20; Revolt Tie Dye Cut-Off Jean Short from Alloy, $25; Wide Brim Floppy Hat from Amazon, $38; Risky Business Sunglasses from FredFlare, $11; Classified Stacy Flat Sandals from flyjane.net; Wooden Bracelets from H&M
