We’re exactly two months out from our August 1 wedding! And that sentence totally freaks me out and gets me really excited all at the same time. We’ve actually done a lot as far as wedding planning goes, but there are still some major details to hash out. Here’s what we’ve got so far…
OUR VENUE
Choosing a venue was probably the biggest decision and what we had the most conversations around. We wanted it to be local here in Baton Rouge and we loved the idea an untraditional venue.
I loved the rustic vibe inside and it smells SO good in there with all that rum! We will have a short ceremony outside under the covered patio area, then have the reception inside. Having the ceremony and reception at the same place was also something that was really important just for ease.
MY DRESS
Finding my dress was actually one of the easiest things I did! I’m just lucky I went in early February - before the virus hit. I can’t wait for you to see my real dress - below is one I tried on, but don’t worry, it’s not the real one.
OUR WEDDING PARTY
We’ve got our wedding party — and something to wear for half of them lol. I’ll have six bridesmaids, and Michael will have five groomsmen. And actually, one of his groomsman is going to be our officiant so we are all sorts of untraditional like that, but I LOVE our wedding party!
I’ve picked my bridesmaids’ dresses, which was the hardest thing besides the venue. Originally, I wanted bright pink bridesmaids dresses because that’s just my vibe. But after thinking about six bridesmaids all wearing bright pink, it just seemed like overkill. So I decided on a light pink dress with the idea of pairing bright pink flowers in their bouquets. Plus, my wedding shoes were going to be bright pink as well.
But once we got the bridesmaids dresses in, the dresses aren’t the pink shade I had originally thought they were. SO instead of sending back all the dresses and starting from scratch, I just decided to change my ENTIRE color scheme of the wedding in a matter of minutes. I’m a little sad to lose the bright hot pink color that I’m obsessed with, but it’s a detail that I’m also willing to part with for my sanity at this point.
The groomsmen don’t have anything to wear yet - which it works out because originally I wanted them to wear royal blue to go with the bridesmaids bright pink, but now with our current light pink dresses, I think navy blue will look better. We’re also thinking vests instead of suits because… August in Louisiana.
OUR VENDORS
I’ve got all my vendors locked in! We’ve got a florist, photographer, DJ, caterer, day-of-coordinator and all the things! I’ll share more about them in the coming months or after the wedding - it will be a blog post for sure!
My best friend Maggie of Blue Lemon Co is designing my invitations, and that’s what we’re working on this week. That’s really our last BIG thing to tackle.
OUR HONEYMOON
We’ve booked our honeymoon, and now we’re just crossing our fingers that we can travel in early August. We’re taking a 7-day cruise around Hawaii on the Norwegian Pride of America. We’re going to Honolulu a few days early, then we board the cruise for a round trip and hit four islands along the way. I’ve never been to Hawaii, so if you’ve been please send me your recommendations!
WHAT’S LEFT:
We still need to finalize some ceremony details. We need to decide on what songs we will walk into and leave to. I LOVE the idea of live instrumental music vs audio for this, but this decision hasn’t been made yet.
We also have to get our wedding bands! I’m having a super hard time deciding on my wedding band… mostly because I love my engagement ring exactly how it is.
