Baton Rouge Fashion Week finally makes its debut this week! Fifty-five models and 15 designers will hit the runway this weekend to showcase spring/summer fashion lines and accessories by local designers.
Schedule:
Events kick off on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. with a mix and mingle at Restaurant IPO. Come hang out with the Oneofakind BRFW crew, designers, and models!
The For Kids by Kids fashion show is set for Friday at 7 p.m. at the Shaw Center for the Arts. This adorable event will feature clothes from popular children stores - Oh Baby! and B Kids. Tickets are on sale in advance for $15 but will be available at the door for $20.
The Big Night at Capitol Park Museum starts at 7 p.m. Saturday night. It will highlight creations by JuJu’s Baton Rouge, Christopher Youngstar, iME, Love R.O.C.S., Ms Smitty, and 10 current and recent fashion design students from LSU. You can get tickets in advance here.
OneofaKind founder Brandon Campbell plans to debut his urban-inspired line, iME, Saturday night. He said fashion seekers should expect the unexpected, with twists and turns at the show. Campbell said the main objective is to leave Baton Rouge inspired.
He said this year — the first year of OBRFW — is just an introduction of where he wants the week to go in the future.
The Big Night will be hosted by plus size model and Baton Rouge native Chenese Lewis who is sure to bring energy to the event! Lewis has been living in Los Angeles for the past 10 years and has since been named Miss Plus America and one of the “6 Plus Fashion Power Players on the Rise” by Ebony magazine.
To all those living in Baton Rouge and Louisiana who love fashion, Lewis had to say that “even though you don’t live in a fashion capital, with the power of social media you can be seen anywhere in the world.” She said social media has given us a platform to not be bound in our own city, and I couldn’t agree more!
What to wear:
If you’re like me, then you’re obviously already planning what to wear to these events. Ladies, wear your black and white gala attire (meaning dresses of any kind-short or long!) and guys, get out your ties! Stay tuned tomorrow for some of my own outfit ideas!
