Spring Trend: Denim, Denim and more Denim

Denim is EVERYWHERE this spring, and it’s here to stay into the fall. Everything from denim vests, pants, skirts, dresses, rompers, shoes, bags, headbands and jewelry has been seen on the runways and store shelves for this spring.

Look No. 1: A denim vest can look great thrown over a floral spring dress or worn over a simple T-shirt to spice up an outfit. When wearing with pants, pair the vest with a darker denim or trouser to avoid the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake denim duo-look. (Gross!)

Product Information: Denim Vest from westfield.com, $27; Livia Floral Dress from Delia’s, $45; Owl Head Drop Earrings from tarinatarantino.com, $35; Jungle Bangle Stack from oasis-stores.com, $21; Cream Floral X Body Straw Bag from missselfridge.com, $23; Sandals from Forever 21, $16

Look No. 2: In the first look, I said to pair a denim vest with a darker pant. Denim on denim has always been seen as a fashion mishap, but it looks like it’s turned into a fashion hit this season and leading into the fall. I think the look works best with a lighter wash denim. Try a denim shirt paired with jeans or shorts together with a leather belt and tan/brown boots as seen in D&G Spring 2010 runway.

Product Information: Blue Denim Long Sleeve Shirt from debenhams.com, $42; Fresh Racerback Tank from Forever 21, $5.80; Bleach Knitted Jeggings from Topshop, $70; Jordin Denim Short from Forever 21, $16; Tan Almond Toe Boots from debenhams.com, $68; Wanted Crete sandals from piperlime.gap.com, $50; Owl Long Pendant from asos.com, $14; Leather Trim Aviators from Topshop, $30; Lucky Brand belt from zappos.com, $50

What denim pieces are you putting into your wardrobe this spring? How do you feel about the denim on denim look? Have you tried it? Tell me in your comments.

  6. Denim will never be out. blue is here to stay!!

  7. I think that denim on denim could look okay, but agree with you that washed is probably better. With dark denim it might look like you were trying to put together a denim suit.

  8. In this season, seen as gourdy next season, would be nice if a denim accessory lasted a couple of months to a year

  9. Love denim rompers ^^

  10. oh! i love this blog! great job!

  11. Awesomeness,I like all the looks especially look no. 2 . Denim’s are always in, they never go out of style. This is most likely used in fashioning outfits today especially in Korea and Japan.

  12. Thank you for the tips and kudos to you for not posting items that are way out of budget for normal shoppers. I appreciate it.

  14. Jean! It’s cool.

  15. oh I love the denim ruffled boots but I still don’t get the open toe on ankle boots and boots in general - it’s just wrong! But i’ll take a closed in version any day!

  16. Ooooh! Denim! Yey! Good thing I just hoarded 8-9 pairs of denim! Can’t wait to wear them!

  17. wow. I thought these things died with the 90s. I guess trends do repeat… faster than I thought.

  18. This is cool. Great. Thanks.

  19. This is cool! Great! Thanks.

  20. The denim vest with sundress reminds me of the 90′s. I am not sure why people are surprised with the trends repeating themselves. We just spent the past two years wearing trends from the 80′s.

  21. Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad everyone is liking the denim trend, and you’ll have to let us know how you feel about the denim on denim look after trying it out.

I’ve had a lot of questions about where to get the items from the “Denim Pieces Under $50.” Forgive us for leaving it out! Here’s the product information:

  26. These pieces are so adorable, they can be made of anything and still look super-cute.

  28. Denim is the first choice of all boys and girls.

  29. Awesomeness,I like all the looks especially look no. 2 . Denim’s are always in, they never go out of style. This is most likely used in fashioning outfits today especially in Korea and Japan.
Fashion 21 has the amazing price for all those awesome outfits.

  30. Love denim. But I think too much is too much. Very few people can pair multiple layers of denim and pull it off. So it may be the trend for Spring (or one of them), but I think it has to be worn carefully, sparingly, and is one of the few fashion areas that in which age makes a huge difference.

Great fitting jeans? Always classic. Denim jacket or vest? Paired nonchalantly with something else - generally a thumbs up. More? Not so sure.

    Loved the post!

  31. Denim is in for sure. I posted my denim look last week, on my blog (http://fashionartscrafts-etc.com) and there’s more to come!

  32. Like it! Denim rocks!

  33. nice. does this mean I have to buy denim for my dogs too? not sure how they will feel about denim OVER fur but will see…lol jk

  34. loving the overalls, but wearing multiple denims, in my opinion, is total overkill.

  40. Denim is in, and your blog is sooo cool

  41. uhh , how I love demin

  42. I agree with your comments about wearing denim with denim,
it is fashionable at the moment, but I do think one needs to be carefull,
there is a fine line between overdoing it and underdoing it,
    if that makes sense..
I have a recent post on denim windows on my blog. Visit it to see how
    the stores promote their denim.

  43. These prices are so good…. thanks for putting them here…. you are welcomed to visit my blog which focuses basically on vintage and current fashions….

  44. I have those blue jean booties in the first picture (got them from Ebay)! I need to figure out what to wear them with though. I love that headband and necklace! Those would be perfect! *goes about hacking up her jeans that don’t fit*

  45. Love the denim look. Especially those denim high heel shoes. Those are soooo cute.

  46. snapshots, snapshots and more snapshots.

  47. LOL, If it weren’t for Denim the world would go crazy wearing the stupid old fashion dresses…

  48. I haven’t tried any denim yet (with the exception of jeans) because I don’t know if I can personally pull it off. I think it’s a great look-if it’s done right. I’m too afraid to mess it up! Maybe one day soon I’ll get a shirt or jacket and try it out. =)

  49. I think denim is one of the coolest items.

  50. I like it….pretty cool stuff…

  51. love the styles…so cute!!!
