3 King Cake Recipes To Try During Quarantine

We’ve been checking off our annual Baton Rouge King Cake Bucket List, but let’s be honest… we all have some spare time on our hands during quarantine. So why not hop in the kitchen and have a go at making our own versions of King Cakes!? They’re likely to be better than whatever banana bread we made in the early days of Covid lol! Today, I’ve rounded up three King Cake recipes from Baton Rouge food bloggers!

1- Maria Do’s Soft & Fluffy Mardi Gras King Cake (inspired by Dong Phuong Bakery)

Maria Do is a Baton Rouge food blogger at Murmurs of Ricotta. She created a soft and fluffy King Cake inspired by Dong Phuong in New Orleans, which she grew up across the street from. It’s a good thing we’ve got her too because Dong Phuong is totally sold out for the 2021 season. People are THAT crazy about their King Cakes!

Maria’s recipe isn’t made like your average Louisiana King Cake… For starters, there’s no ring in the middle, which means more soft and fluffy dough on the inside. And instead of braiding, she cut slits around the edge for even baking. She also uses a Brown Butter Cream Cheese Icing! Uhhh I may just make the icing?

Check out her recipe here.

2- Aimee Broussard’s Mardi Gras King Cake Fudge

As much as I love traditional King Cake, I love other fun King Cake-inspired desserts just as much. Aimee from AimeeBroussard.com created this King Cake fudge that packs all the flavors of King Cake cake, but in bite-sized creamy fudge. She used a round cookie cutter to make them look super cute like a miniature King Cake, but you could even cut them into squares or however you want!

Check out her recipe here.

3- Lili Courtney’s King Cake Monkey Bread

Monkey Bread is always a Christmas tradition for us, but it can so easily be made into a King Cake. Lili of Kitchen Confidence with Lili created a King Cake Monkey Bread with flavor bombs. It also includes cereal toast crunch crumbs, which is inspired by Milk Bar!

Check out her recipe here.
