How To Host A King Cake Tasting Party

Everybody’s saying it… Mardi Gras is cancelled, but King Cake isn’t! We have even more Baton Rouge King Cakes than ever to try this year. I created an epic bucket list with 25+ local King Cakes. But if trying that many seems a little intimidating, then maybe your best option is to host a King Cake Tasting Party!

Today, I’m partnering with Party Time here in Baton Rouge to help you go ALL OUT with a King Cake Tasting Party this season. Get some friends together and try several local favorites at once!

Step 1: Choose The King Cakes

Once you know who’s coming to your party, collaborate on a King Cake list. I recommend starting a private Facebook event or group chat. From there, guests can comment with where their King Cake will be from OR what flavor they plan to bring. That way, you don’t have folks showing up with the same cakes!

Another option would be for you to compile a list of local King Cakes (you can use the bucket list) and share with your guests… then they can choose from the list. Hopefully, it will spark some ideas for guests to branch out and try something new!

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a traditional King Cake either. Mason’s Grill has a King Cake burger, Cheesecake Bistro has cheesecake, Bistro Byronz has bread pudding, Blue Bell has King Cake ice cream, Abita has King Cake soda, Les Amis has macarons… the list goes on! Have fun with it.

Step 2: Decorate for Mardi Gras

Seeing how homes in New Orleans are decorating their porches and yards like floats makes me want to decorate my house THAT much more this year. Party Time (like always) has us covered with tableware, balloons, decor, and so much more. Be sure to stock up on festive plates, napkins and cups for your tasting party.

They even have Mardi Gras and Yardi Gras yard signs!

SHOP: Fleur De Lis Hanging Sign | Fleur De Lis Hanging Decoration | Ornaments | Jazzy Mardi Gras Swirl Decorations | Mardi Gras Bow | Balloon Banner Kit | Bourbon Street Cutouts | Chandelier Decorating Kit | Confetti | Mardi Gras Bunting | Mardi Gras Foil Metallic Danglers | Tinsel Garland | Mask String Garland | Plastic Coins

SHOP: Jazzy mardi Gras Napkins | Jazzy Mardi Gras Plates | Jazzy Mardi Gras Table Cover | Champagne Flutes | Plastic Plates | Mardi Gras Mask Square Plates | Mardi Gras Mask Napkins | Gold Forks

Step 3: Encourage Costumes

And what’s Mardi Gras without fun costumes… even if we are at home? Party Time is obviously known for their costumes, but they’ve got some fun stuff just for Carnival season too like dresses, hats, glasses, headbands, boas — and LOTS of beads.

Encourage people to wear costumes or have beads and masks waiting for them when they get there!

SHOP: Mardi Gras Fringed Dress | Light Up Headband Bow | Light Up Glasses | Off The Shoulder Tunic | Mardi Gras Skimmer Hat | Tinsel Light Up Headband | Mardi Gras Tinsel Eye Lashes | Purple Spirit Feather Boa | Metallic Suspenders | Mardi Gras Giant Beads Necklace | Mardi Gras Harlequin Feather Mask

Be sure to tag me on Instagram (@southernflairblog) if you have a King Cake tasting this year — and let me know which local King Cake is your favorite!

Thank you Party Time for sponsoring today’s post. Check out their location at 3350 Bluebonnet Blvd and online here.
