One Month Until Our Wedding

We’re ONE month away from our August 1 wedding, which is craaaazy. We’re hoping the world stops imploding on itself long enough to have our celebration, so send us some good vibes!

We got engaged in January at Mike The Tiger’s cage (see that post), then we bought a house in March (that post here). Last month I shared a blog with wedding planning updates (read that here), and today I’m updating you on where we are one month out!

OUR ENGAGEMENT PARTY

We finally got to have our engagement party in June - a crawfish boil hosted by my best friend Maggie and her husband! It was our first big get-together at our new house too since the pandemic, so it was great to have everyone together again.

OUR WEDDING BANDS

I didn’t know I’d be so excited about wedding bands! At first, I didn’t even want one. I LOVE my engagement ring just how it is, so I tried to tell Michael I didn’t want a band. But then we met with Todd’s Jewelry, who Michael designed my engagement ring through, and after seeing what he had sketched out I decided I definitely wanted a wedding band!

I really liked working with a concierge jeweler. It was much more personal and I feel like we got exactly what we wanted. We got Michael’s wedding band this same time, so can’t wait to share those with you.

INVITATIONS

Our invitations ended up WAY different than I had originally envisioned but I love them! Basically, my original wedding color scheme was super bright colors. In the last update, I shared how that had to change because my bridesmaids dresses ended up being a TOTALLY different color pink than I thought. I didn’t want everyone to return them and start that whole process over again, so we went with it. They’re still gorgeous, just a different color pink that I had planned for.

For our original colors, we were going to have bright pink, royal blue, yellow, orange and lots of greenery. But with the now-color of the pink dresses, we went with navy tuxes for the guys instead of royal blue. I originally wanted bright invitations, but I had NO clue what my color scheme was at that point when we had to design them, so we went with navy and white. I knew navy was for sure going to be a color to where I everything else was undecided.

I love how they turned out. My best friend Maggie at Blue Lemon Co designed them, and she deserves an award for putting up with me and my constant changing of wedding details lol.

I love that we got to include a Taylor Swift lyric on the RSVP card. Michael and I both obsess over Taylor Swift and she’s really the foundation of our relationship haha, so it’s super fitting. I love that we’ve gotten to add these little details in that really mean something to us.

We decided to go with a virtual RSVP online - and thank goodness we did because the post office seems to be a hot mess right now. We mailed out invitations a couple weeks ago and a LARGE portion of our guests still don’t have them. We’re currently dealing with this crisis and trying to decide our next plan of action.

OUR MINI MOON

A couple months ago we booked a Hawaiian cruise for the week after our wedding for our honeymoon. Buuuut just like everything else in 2020, our cruise has now been postponed. Now we’re looking into taking a “Mini Moon” somewhere in the meantime. We hope to still take our cruise by early 2021 at the latest. We decided to get the cruise credit so we still get to go! I didn’t want to get our refund and then life get in the way and us never go. On the bright side, now we get two trips!

I polled my Happy Hour Club friends in our Facebook group about any ideas for nearby spots we could go after the wedding, and I got SO many good ideas. I’m working on rounding those up for a blog post — all around mini moons or Southern honeymoon spots. Stay tuned!

BACHELORETTE

Much like the honeymoon, a bachelorette trip isn’t happening either. It has been a bit upsetting not being able to fully celebrate things like you normally would when you’re engaged. People keep telling me I won’t care years from now or I’ll still be “just as married” but it does suck now in the moment.

I wanted a bachelorette trip in Napa, but now I’ll just force everyone to go to Napa with me for a trip in the future. And trust me, I won’t forget! But for now my bachelorette will be a night out here in Baton Rouge the weekend before the wedding. I know it will be fun, and I’ll have a great time with my favorite girls.

THE LITTLE DETAILS

When planning a wedding, you think about the big things: food, drinks, dress, cake, photographer and flowers. But I didn’t realize how many little details there were, and this list seems to grow as a I get closer to the wedding.

We’ve taken care of koozies and our send off idea. These two kinda go together with a similar theme, and I can’t wait to share. Really, I love that our wedding doesn’t really have a “theme” at this point. It’s just things we love and things that make us, us. Super excited about this!

We’ve got our wedding officiant all set up too. We asked Michael’s life-long friend and groomsman to do the ceremony for us. He’s doing double duty for the day, and it’s going to be great!

STILL LEFT TO DO:

My wedding to-do list is much shorter, and I can see the finish line! We still have to get our marriage license and do a final walk-thru of the venue and decide how we want tables/chairs to be set up. We also have to decide on ceremony music. Why is deciding what song to walk BACK down the aisle to so hard?!

I also need to still figure out my guestbook situation. My biggest obstacle now is deciding about my hair and makeup (and veil or no veil). With the virus, I’m not sure if getting my makeup or hair done is the best idea. I’m going to practice over the next month (mostly with my lashes!) and see what I can come up with. If you’ve got any makeup gurus you like to watch on YouTube, send them my way!

It would be cute to have the Taylor Swift song from your invite as your back down the aisle song (assuming it’s not already incorporated into the wedding, of course)!
