The New Year means new fitness goals, so today I’m sharing FREE ways you can get your workout done in Baton Rouge. From running clubs and community classes to yoga all over town. Here’s your list of FREE workouts in Baton Rouge! Let me know of any to add to the list!
Varsity Running Club
Varsity Sports has its own running clubs here in Baton Rouge, Mandeville and New Orleans. You can check their calendar here for a list of upcoming races and meet-up dates and routes. Not a runner? They also do Walking On Wednesday meet-ups where the group walks 2-5 miles.
Happy’s Running Club
This is a weekly social running club that meets every Tuesday at 6:15PM at Happy’s Irish Pub (136 3rd St.) downtown. You can walk, run, bring your dog - and the best part, enjoy a beer after. They run various 5K routes around downtown, which are emailed out the day of. Annual membership is $35. You get a t-shirt, drink specials, race deals and random prizes, but technically it’s free to run each week if you just show up.
Mid-City Run Club
This Mid-City Run Club happens each Thursday at 6PM, starting at Peak Performance (750 Jefferson Hwy). There are 2mile, 5K, or 4 mile running/walking routes. Then after you run, there are drink specials at Jed’s Local Poboys, Reginelli’s, Mid City Craft and Brew Ha Ha and Monjuni’s.
Yoga On Tap
Tin Roof Brewing Co (1624 Wyoming St) hosts yoga on their lawn every Wednesday at 6PM. Each week, they host a different instructor and happy hour beer prices.
Point-Marie Free Yoga Class
Pointe-Marie (14200 River Road) is a 120-acre village with homes, shopping, dining — and you guessed it… fitness. They host a free community yoga class each Thursday at 6:30PM.
Yoga On The Lakes
This is a beginner’s outdoor yoga class hosted on various times and dates at BREC’s Milford Wampold Memorial Park. They do a lot of sunset and sunrise yoga - just check their calendar for upcoming classes!
White Star Market Community Workouts
White Star Market (4624 Government St) has a variety of free workouts from their complimentary weekend yoga to monthly fun-runs through Capital Heights. But they also partner with local gyms and fitness studios for free workout series throughout the year. They’ve partnered with Bodysculpt Barre, Regymen Fitness, Club Pilates and Evolve Studio - just to name a few. Keep an eye on their calendar for upcoming events!
Electric Depot’s Wellness Wednesday
The new Electric Depot (by Red Stick Social) hosts a free yoga, pilates, fitness or wellness class on the first Wednesday of each month from local exercise gurus.
Main Library Walking & Aerobics Club
The Main Library at Goodwood hosts walking and aerobic classes throughout the week. On walking days, they walk around the Library and through the nearby gardens and host aerobic classes indoors. The Bluebonnet location also offers Fitness in the Stacks!
