This past week I’ve been on Spring Break, and as I head back to work tomorrow, I’ll be totally refreshed because I’ve taken this week off to enjoy some good ole “me time.”
I love my three “jobs” (teaching, blogging, and running the Baton Rouge Fashion Council), so I’m not complaining about the time all three take because I’m really passionate about of them. But sometimes it’s nice to have a break to relax!
On a daily basis, I wake up around 4 a.m. to take care of blogging and Fashion Council tasks before my real day starts as a 7th grade English teacher. And our weekends have been anything but restful lately with all the weddings, softball games, out-of-town trips and so on. So this week off was much needed to have some down time.
I think my favorite part of my Spring Break was I didn’t put on real pants at all! I lived in sweats and yoga pants, so no complaints here! This Lyric Culture “Rock You Like a Hurricane” sweatshirt has also been on full rotation.

Quiet Coffee Time - As a teacher, I get very little quiet time or time to myself during the day, so I truly can appreciate the quietness when I have it. As soon as I wake up I enjoy a cup of coffee as I blog or check email or social media. I try to have coffee alone in my classroom (with the door locked!) during my lunch break. Then, as soon as I get home… you guessed it! More coffee and quiet time as I check social media and work on blog things again. Now that I got my Ninja Coffee Bar for Christmas, it’s so much fun to make coffee shop style drinks right from my kitchen! I’m obsessed… I mean, iced coffee whenever I want!
Netflix - Binge watching TV shows is something I haven’t had a lot of time for lately. But as we get closer to state testing time at school, my year will dramatically slow down in April, so I’m looking for new shows to get sucked into and to give my mind some rest! I enjoy shows like Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Blacklist, Lost, Entourage — so a little bit of everything — leave your recommendations in the comments!
Reading - As an English teacher, I’m always getting book recommendations from my kids and staying up to date with what they’re reading and enjoying. I try to give myself at least 45 minutes of reading time a day. Some of my current favorites are Girl on a Train, The 5th Wave Series, and The Selection series (it’s like Hunger Games meets the Bachelor!). If you’re looking for more inspirational reads try Big Magic or Year of Yes. I also have a whole list of helpful blogging books here.
Social Media - Keeping current on social media is obviously a huge part of my daily blogging life, so sometimes I like to binge on a little social media with no ties to blogging at all (like all those Tasty recipes popping up on Facebook or kitten videos). It’s when I can get the most inspired and get my creative juices flowing. I’ve also been obsessed with Snapchat lately — you can find me at @lesliepresnall.
Working Out - With spending so much time behind a computer or in a classroom, getting out and active has become my number one priority each day. I try to make it to the gym at least 5 times a week for barre class, spin class, or kickboxing. I’m also on a softball team now! HA! You can read more about how I’m getting out and about this spring in this post.
