Different seasons call for different skincare routines and treatments. So today, I’ve called in the experts at Skincare Aesthetics in Baton Rouge to ask what should we do to prepare our skin for fall and winter. Baton Rouge aesthetician Haley Burk came to our rescue and is sharing 3 Skincare Treatments To Try This Fall!

First, let’s MEET Haley Burk! Haley is an aesthetician at Skincare Aesthetics in Baton Rouge. She has nearly a decade of experience in helping people with their esthetic concerns. She’s trained in skincare treatments as well as selected medical procedures.

I’ve met with Haley a couple times the past few months for treatments (see below). Since this is really the beginning of my skincare journey (I’m a total newbie), she’s given me lots of info about things I should / shouldn’t be doing and the best options for my skin. Basically, I’m over 30 with little to no skincare routine. My skin tents to be oily with most of my breakouts happening along my jawline. I also tend to get a lot of sun exposure, so Haley has helped me A LOT in my education on what’s best for my skin.

Now that we’re getting out of summer and into some cooler weather, Haley has some tips on 3 skincare treatments we could do this fall to get that summer off our face.

1- IPL {Intense Pulsed Light}

What is IPL?

IPL stands for intense pulse light which is a light source that is used for skin rejuvenation. It’s a handheld device that’s moved across your face with pulses of bright light that go deep into your skin. Think of it as a really powerful blinking flashlight.

I didn’t find it painful — it’s more of a warm/hot feeling on your face. It was SO bright though - so that’s why you see our eyes are covered.

What does IPL treat?

Sun damage, freckles, age spots, enlarged pores and redness — as well as birthmarks and uneven pigmentation

Why is IPL a great treatment during the fall?

Since we’re less likely to be in the sun this time of year, IPL is a great “get summer off your face” treatment. The IPL machine targets both red and brown spots.

What’s the recovery time?

There’s no recovery time associated with this procedure - and a very low risk of complications, giving it more advantages over microdermabrasion or chemical peels (with several days of peeling).

How often should we do it?

The sessions take about 30 minutes and Haley suggests three treatments a month apart. She said age spots and freckles respond very quickly to the treatment, but reds from rosacea usually take more sessions.

2- HydraFacial

What is a Hydrafacial?

The Hydrafacial is a machine that uses patented technology to cleanse, extract and hydrate your skin. And it’s literally for everyone.

Think of it as suctioning out all the gross stuff in your pores, while hydrating your face and giving you legit glowing skin after.

What does the HydraFacial treat?

The Hydrafacial really address all skin needs — lines & wrinkles, brown spots, oily skin, even tone, elasticity, enlarged pores and texture.

Why is the Hydrafacial a great treatment for fall?

The hydrafacial is great for the fall to help prevent your skin from the dryness that comes in the colder months.

3- Chemical Peel

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is exactly what it sounds like. A masque is applied at your office visit, then for a few days it peels off and your skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. There are different types of peels used to penetrate the skin at different depths. You can see the options here.

What does a chemical peel treat?

Chemical peels are used to smooth the skin and improve the appearance of fine wrinkles, dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne.

Why is a chemical peel a great treatment for fall?

Chemical peels are better during the fall and winter months because you are less likely to have as much sun exposure. These particular treatments make the skin sun sensitive, so you should avoid the sun as much possible.
