This time of year in Louisiana, it’s just too dang hot to be outside. Some days it’s nice to turn down the AC, put on some comfy clothes and just snuggle up with a good book and a cup of coffee (or wine!).
And while summer can be a relaxing time, honestly it can get fairly busy with traveling and working. Down time is seriously sacred, so it’s nice to turn off social media and enjoy some quiet time. See more on how I’m de-stressing here.
Today, I’ve teamed up with Baton Rouge-based Woolly Threads (also seen here) to share my favorite summer reads and Netflix shows!

What I’m Reading…
Year of Yes by Shonda Rimes - If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal or How to Get Away With Murder, then you already know how awesome their creator Shonda Rimes is. This is a story about Shonda’s life when she decided to start saying “yes” to everything — yes to giving speeches, yes to going on live television and so much more. And it’s hysterical. Like so funny I tried reading on the plane, but kept laughing and waking up the guy next to me. I think the best part about her book is that she created McDreamy and Dancing It Out and she’s such a normal person! It’s nice to see these amazing creative celebrities who still have everyday fears like public speaking — or who have to make treats for their daughter’s school bake sale. Get it here.
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll - I’m not going to say too much about this one because I’m glad I read it and knew very little of what it was actually about. If you’re a fan of Gone Girl or Girl on a Train, then this is your next book. The main character Ani FaNelli has an amazing job at a magazine and a rich perfect fiancé. But some CRAZY stuff went down before she created this perfect life for herself.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown - This is the first book in a trilogy that I’m currently reading for a book club. If you’re wanting something similar to Hunger Games, then this is a good pick! The main character Darrow is born into the lowest caste in his society — a Red. He lives and works on Mars preparing to make it livable in the future. BUT he finds out people have been living there for hundreds of years, and he’s just been a slave while everyone live amazing lives on Mars.

What I’m Watching…
Stranger Things - Everyone is talking up Stranger Things right now, and it’s totally worth the hype! There are only 8 episodes, so it’s easy to get through quickly. Fair warning— you might want to watch the first couple episodes with the lights on. I’m not a fan of scary stuff, but once you know what’s going on, it’s less scary and more awesome!
Anything My Shonda Rimes - Obviously, I think she’s the best. And I’m not above binge watching old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy — those were the good ole days with Izzy, Dr. Burke and George anyway. And everything in my life will go on pause once the latest episodes of How To Get Away With Murder are released.
Penny Dreadful - Ok, not gonna lie. The only reason I’m watching this show is because my inner middle school self is still obsessed with Josh Hartnett. Sure, vampires and all were popular a few years ago, so I guess that’s cool? But mainly — Josh Hartnett.
