Since founding my blog in 2010, one of the things I’ve been most passionate about is the growing Louisiana fashion industry. Over the years, I’ve loved discovering local brands and boutiques through my blog and social media. More importantly, I’ve loved getting to tell you guys about my new favorite local discoveries.
I’ve had so many friends and readers tell me that they wouldn’t have known about certain designers or shops if it wouldn’t have been for my blog. When I began thinking of new ways to connect readers and the community to local businesses, I decided to start the Baton Rouge Fashion Council, and it’s already been quite the journey so far!
After months of back and forth of what I wanted the Fashion Council’s main mission and purpose to be, I finally launched it with the help of a few others in April.
The Baton Rouge Fashion Council is an organization for local designers and boutiques to network and collaborate together through pop-up shops, social events, and runway shows.
After gaining our first initial members we hosted our first pop-up shop in mid-May at Tin Roof Brewing Co., which just happened to coincide with Craft Beer Week. We got to shop spring and summer styles from six local vendors while sipping our favorite craft beers.
Despite the rainy weather, we were pleased with our turnout for our first pop-up shop, and we’re already planning a few others for the summer. I didn’t realize how nervous I would be hosting my first event! Even with little sleep that week, I always felt like I was forgetting to do something, so it was nice to get our first event behind us. Now I know what to do and what not to do moving forward. Either way it will be a great learning experience and I can’t wait to see how the Fashion Council grows!
If you’re in the Baton Rouge area, you can sign up for our mailing list to be the first to know about upcoming events. We will be announcing the details for our June event shortly! We’re also on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram — ya know, just in case you’re interested :)
p.s. We were also featured on NOLA.com and InRegister!
