Now that it’s finally getting a little chilly outside, it’s the perfect time for me to tell you about SavvyRoot! Celeste Austin (who just happens to be one of my favorite local designer gal pals) started her Baton Rouge-based accessory line last year specializing in handmade scarves and handbags. She actually just celebrated her one year brand birthday last week!
I first met Celeste in the spring when we scheduled a “meeting” at 4 p.m. that lasted until 11 p.m. Needless to say, happy hour ran a little long, but we came out good friends, and I’ve been so happy to see her grow her brand as much as she has in recent months. I know everyone must love SavvyRoot as much as I do because anytime I try to hang out, she’s always swamped with finishing up her famous handbags and iconic scarves (awesome for her, sad for me).
Celeste said the name “SavvyRoot” comes from going back to her roots and adding a twist. As a child her parents instilled in her the habit of shopping for basics like white socks, white Keds, and solid colored tees.
“I was always dressed in staples, neutrals, and basics that would last me a long time,” she said. “So with the same concept, I like to take those stapes and put a savvy spin on them ensuring that you get many uses out of each piece.”
She said she prefers clean and simple pieces that make a statement.
“I literally think about so much behind the design of each accessory,” Celeste said. “It’s important to me to keep it simple but stand out.”
For a girl who taught herself to sew and design, she creates the most beautiful handbags and clutch collections (and stylish fancypacks!), plus the popular snap scarves that are perfect for all seasons.
These snap scarves are the ideal traditional piece with a creative spin!
With a “simple with a twist” mindset, the SavvyRoot collections include lots of leather and suede fabrics in basic colors like black and variations of browns and tans that can go with literally anything in your closet. A few products have more of an edgier vibe with metallics and even python!
As if it couldn’t get any better, SavvyRoot has teamed up with our favorite Baton Rouge-beauty brand Kismet Cosmetics to create a Bridal Collection, which includes a monogrammed cosmetic bag with Kismet lipstick and bronzing lotion. Not getting married anytime soon? Me either, but these bridal bags can also make the perfect Christmas gift!
I was so blown away by Celeste creating a stylish fanny pack (pictured above), called the “FancyPack” (I didn’t even think it was possible, but it is!), so I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve next! Shop the SavvyRoot collections here!
