We Tried The Bougie Bar - Here’s What We Thought!
We recently had a fun girls night at The Bougie Bar - which is Baton Rouge’s candle making store and candle making experience!
The Bougie Bar is located at 711 Jefferson Hwy in the shopping center with Brew Ha Ha and Monjunis.
Think of The Bougie Bar candle-making experience like painting with a twist… but with candles! You get to make your own candles with your friends in an upbeat class and bring your own booze and treats.
I went with my friends Marci, Karla, Jennifer and Joslyn for a “Wax N Wine Wednesday” event. Basically, these are events that The Bougie Bar already has on their schedule, and you purchase a spot to that class.
You can also book a private party with a 10 guest minimum.
The class duration is TWO hours.
At first I was like… how in the world is it going to take two hours to make a candle?
But they made it last two hours — and it was so much fun.
First off, when you arrive you sit at your table, there’s music playing and you get to pour yourself some wine and just get settled in.
Then once the class starts you have a bit of “prep work.” They go over everything that’s on your tray, you write your name on everything so you’ll know which candle is yours and how to pick up your candle later.
This is something you should know going in: You won’t be able to leave that night with your candle because it will be a container of hot melted wax. So they’ll go over all the rules on how to come get your candle and when to do that.
Then you get to pick your container and scents (which is the most fun part)!
You can mix and match scents together to make your very own. They also have pre-made scents that are 100% guaranteed to smell good. They change these out based on seasons.
I ventured out and created my own custom scent. I went with 60% Plumeria and 40% Magnolia Peony… and OMG it’s my favorite candle I’ve ever smelled in my life. It smells like Bath & Body Works circa 1999, and I’m here for it.
After you pick your scents and containers, they bring around your hot wax and the creation of the candle happens step-by-step as a full group. You secure your wicks together. You stir wax together. You pour together. It’s all very fun.
You also have the option of making multiple candles.
Then when class finishes up, you say goodbye to your candle for a few days while it hardens. We were able to pick our candles up 2-3 days later.
There’s also a cute gift shop in the front with more candles, jewelry, and home decor items.
Another cool thing about The Bougie Bar is they will refill your candle for $20 using the exact ratio of scents you used. That way you can keep having your same candle over and over after you burn it. I already know I’m a repeat customer (and my candle will burn for 100+ hours because it’s huge).

I definitely recommend it for a fun girls night out or booking it for a private party! It would be great for bachelorette, birthday or office parties.
You can find them online here and on Instagram at @mybougiebar.
