Fall Trend: Velvet Blazers

Free People

Velvet is such an odd fabric that I have mixed emotions about. It could stem from the horrible velvet black pants I used to wear in middle school. Nonetheless, velvet from head to toe terrifies me, but I’m all on board for little touches of velvet here and there. With the weather (slowly) cooling off, it’s getting me excited for anything cozy — including velvet blazers. I’ve been daydreaming about these for a while now and thinking of different options:

Product Information: Stripe Tee from General Pants, $20; Midnight Velvet Blazer from Topshop, $150; SKinny jeans from Witchery, $20; Lace Up boots from Zappos, $89; Black Doctors Bag from Miss Selfridge, $27; Black Cobweb Pearl Necklace from Debenhams, $20

Product Information: Feather top from Wet Seal, $23; Schoolboy Velvet Blazer from J.Crew, $168; Moto Skinny Utility Jeans from Topshop, $63; Sueded Desert Wedges from Old Navy, $22; Satchel bag from Debenhams, $35; Allison Daniel Wrapped Leaf Ring from Max & Chloe, $50

Product Information: Pretty Lace Dress from Miss Selfridge, $80; Velvet Tailored Jacket from Uniqlo, $78; Opaque Tights from Armani Exchange, $20; ‘No Need to Spree’ Heel from Modcloth, $35; Fan Drop Earrings from Peacocks, $5

Thoughts on velvet blazers?

Clarisonic | Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing Review

A few months back I meant to write a review about my Clarisonic Mia. But then I procrastinated and basically took a three month hiatus.

Long story short: I’m back, and the one good thing about my delayed post is that I’ve had PLENTY of time to really use my Mia, and now I can sit down and write an accurate review.

In a few words: I love it.

Not only is it refreshing (and an all around fun way to wash your face), it hasn’t let the stress of a new job show with break outs. You can feel the cleansing, smoothing and freshness happening in just one minute twice a day.

If you’re not familiar with Clarisonic, the hand-held brush (designed by the same folks who invented the Sonicare toothbrush) massages your skin with 300 movements per second. It removes 6 times more make-up than manual cleansing! I’m the world’s worst about washing off my make-up, so I’m hoping this will make up for all those nights I didn’t…

My kit included:

  • Cordless Clarisonic Mia
  • pLink® International Charger
  • Sensitive Brush Head
  • Gentle Hydro Cleanser
*Note: my kit came with the trial size cleanser, but other face cleansers work fine with the Mia too for when you run out
Things I love about my Mia:
  • It’s waterproof! You can use it in the shower!
  • It turns itself off after 1  minute, so you don’t have to time yourself
  • It seriously reduces blackheads and dry patches
  • Recharging is easy (about once a week)
  • Makes your skin SO smooth
I struggle with dry skin, but from other reviews I’ve read, the Clarisonic significantly improves oily skin as well. I also read that some users’ faces broke out after first using their Mia because it wasn’t used to the deep cleansing, however, I didn’t experience this. If you do break out, it should disappear within a few weeks of using it.
The Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System costs about $119. It seems expensive, but it’s totally worth it. Think of it as an investment. You can purchase your products directly from Clarionsic or Ulta, Dillard’s or Sephora, etc.
Make a difference: During the month of October, Clarisonic is donating $1 to the Look Good… Feel Better cancer fund program for every Facebook “Like.” Clarisonic is also donating a portion of proceeds from every specially designated Pink Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System purchased.

Ribbons & Pearls

What a week! Like I said last post, I’m a first year teacher, so the blog is taking a backseat to school until I get in the routine of things. Gotta think about the children’s futures, you know? :) I’m teaching 6th grade language arts and having a blast! I love my job! But I promise, I haven’t forgotten about you guys.

I took these pictures this weekend — It was Saturday, so I wore FLATS! We really shouldn’t take our pain-free shoe days for granted. I’m realizing how rare those days are to me now, especially when you stay on your feet all.day.long.

Still working on my photo taking skills (obviously). I may have improved a tee-tiny bit. Yes? No?
