Mardi Gras is the time in Louisiana when we’re allowed to go a little crazy with our outfits and accessories. One crazier (but fun!) trend I’ve been wanting to try out is the pom pom earring trend. So today, I’m making it Mardi Gras-themed with these DIY Pom Pom Mardi Gras Earrings! For less than $10 and about 20 minutes of your time, you’ll have some really festive quirky earrings to wear on parade day!
What You Need:
Large Hoop Earrings
Green Yarn (about 5 feet)
Purple Yarn (about 5 feet)
Yellow Yarn (about 5 feet)
First, cut your yarn about 50 inches. This will keep your pom fairly small. Then wrap it around the outside of the fork.
Next, cut a separate piece of yarn about 6 inches. String the yard through the middle prongs of the fork around the yarn. Tie in a tight knot. Then tie again into a double knot.
Slide the yarn off your fork and grab your scissors.
Cut the outer loops of the yarn. Cut fairly shallow so you don’t cut all the way through to the extra piece of yarn that’s holding everything together. Roll the yarn around in your hand to fluff it up and you’ll start to notice the pom-shape forming. Keep trimming the ends until it’s an even round shape.
Slide each pom down over your earring hoops. You might need to trim a bit more once you get them on the earrings to even out the sizes of all three pom poms. Then you’re all done! :)
