Parades start rolling through downtown Baton Rouge THIS weekend, so I figured it was time we talk about what to wear to a Mardi Gras parade! Today’s outfit is all about comfort and mixing in traditional Mardi Gras colors for the Krewe of Orion (rolls this Saturday, 2/11) and the Krewe of Artemis (rolls Friday, 2/17). These pardes stick to traditional colors vs The Spanish Town parade that’s all PINK! When it comes to the Anatomy of a Mardi Gras Outfit you’ll need – a festive top, a light jacket, closed-toe comfortable shoes, jeans/leggings, a small wristlet or crossbody bag (hand’s free!), minimal (but festive!) jewelry, and sunglasses. See my breakdown in today’s post!

Carnival Season weather can be pretty unpredictable, so always check the weather to see if you’ll need a jacket. You know one day it can be 30 degrees, then 80 degrees the very next day. Who knows what’s up with Louisiana weather, so be prepared with a light jacket! Plus, you can always tie it around your waist if you don’t need it. I’m always wanting a jacket anyway once the sun goes down.

I love a good utility jacket because it’s pretty perfect for Louisiana “winter” and still works when tied around your waist. Plus, it has pockets! Perfect for holding your phone and other small necessities. Plus,  it’s green color is a neutral and can be paired with pretty much anything!

I say keep the jewelry to a minimum — especially if you’re planning on catching beads. New Orleans parades are notorious for throwing as HARD as humanly possible, but the Baton Rouge ones tend to be a little bit more gentle. I’ve had to get bent rings fixed in the past thanks to catching Mardi Gras beads. My advice is to take your rings and watches off during the parades just to be safe!

When it comes to necklace and earrings, keep your necklace simple since you’ll be adding pounds of beads. I’ve been obsessed with this Kate Spade Masquerade Mask necklace for months. I’ve worn it pretty much daily throughout Carnival Season!

And you’ve probably seen these Rebl Creative tassel earrings on my Instagram and Snapchat. OBSESSED! So freakin’ festive… and talk about make a statement!

When it comes to shoes, keep it comfortable. Skip the heels and wedges. And definitely skip the sandals or anything open-toe. You don’t want to get stepped on in the crazy crowds, and the streets can get pretty nasty, so closed toe no matter what! Stick to boots or other comfortable flats.

I’ve been wearing these metallic gold loafers on repeat all winter and they’re perfect for parades! They also come in several different color options including pink, black and silver — and they’re less than $25!
