When and how did you start The Purple Rack?
Kadee: I originally started The Purple Rack online in August of 2015. I wanted to to meet new people and enjoy some ladies time because I loved doing trunk shows for Ladies’ Night Out! I enjoyed seeing how happy ladies were putting clothes on that “fit” them. I then decided to grow into a store front. I spent long nights and days of working to find the “right” place where it would be convenient for Prairieville and all of Ascension but not far for Baton Rouge either. We finally opened March of 2016! It has been a great experience, and I still enjoy seeing women come in the store — and we have the perfect size for every curve you have.
Where did the name “The Purple Rack” come from?
Kadee: The Purple Rack originated from my favorite color being purple. So, I knew purple would be in the name because I wanted the main color to be purple in the store. Then the “rack” part came from my husband and four boys who are always hunting and talking about deer and their racks. The night I was trying to come up with the official name my husband continued to talk about the deer racks, so there you get The Purple Rack Boutique! Of course when you come in the shop we have a purple deer head… Thanks boys. :)
What does a typical day look like for you running your own boutique?
Kadee: A typical day in the life of a boutique owner comes down to one word — BUSY. I use to catch up on Monday and Tuesday to get ready for the rest of the busy week, but not any more! My day starts early with mom duties, then onto the boutique owner — paper work, pricing, steaming, ordering new arrivals and of course helping ALL my customers. I still like being involved in my customers and getting to know them. Knowing their style helps, so when they walk in you know what to grab for them. I think the one-on-one relationship is a plus in today’s world. Then, after closing the boutique, it’s back to being mom until the kiddos go to bed. Then I’m on to answering emails and messages. It’s a busy day but I wouldn’t trade it. Meeting new people daily and making them feel happy and pretty is what makes it worth the hard work and long days.
What makes The Purple Rack unique?
Kadee: Here at The Purple Rack we like to be different. We want to carry a variety of items and we have all sizes (small – 3XL). Plus, we now have made a little girl’s section for sizes small (5) to XL (14). Along with clothes and shoes, we carry jewelry and small easy gifts like bath and body products.
What’s your favorite winter trend we can currently find in The Purple Rack? And how would you style it?
Kadee: My favorite winter trend right now is the #1 customer favorite (and mine) — jeggings! I would pair them with some booties and a flowy top for comfort. One thing I always tell my customers is “if you’re not comfortable, you won’t have a fun time.”
What has been the most challenging part of running your own boutique?
Kadee: The most challenging part of running a boutique is making sure you get “the trend” right. It’s all about knowing what your customers want to see in the store to buy. (PS…I love hearing what customers want to see!) :) Another challenging part would be creating balance. Balancing boutique life and home life. It’s easy to let boutique life work you all the time. There’s always something to do with work.
What has been your favorite part of running a boutique?
Kadee: The #1 part I’ve loved the most since day one is meeting new people. I know most people would think I’m crazy for saying that because I’m not a very outgoing person. Once I’m in a place I enjoy being and love what I do, I love seeing customers. Learning their style, what they love, just having conversations with each and every one of them makes for a great day. You can learn a lot from just general everyday conversations.
What’s in store for The Purple Rack in 2017? What can we expect to see from The Purple Rack in the future?
Kadee: 2017 is almost here, and we have LOTS of plans in store for The Purple Rack Boutique! One major plan is to expand. When I say expand that means lots of different things. Of course I’d love to expand our original store with our #1 customers. If that chance comes available, we will do it. We also would love to expand to our second location to make more ladies happy and feel good about themselves. I also want to be more involved in community events to meet more ladies. We’ve also started our own shirt designs this holiday season and plan to keep that up with more designs for this year. We will also continue our Ladies Night Out!
