How to add layers to your fall outfits in three easy steps

Try to have a bad day while wearing tiny elephants all over your shirt! I’m pretty sure it can’t be done, which is why this cute little navy elephant top from Modcloth was the base of my fall layering look. I recently teamed up with Modcloth to share my layering techniques with their amazing fall/winter sweaters and my favorite autumn colors. The weather this time of year is always hit or miss. One day you think you’ll be enjoying pumpkin spice lattes and wearing cozy knits just to be complaining about the heat later on. So that’s when layers come in handy about now, especially in Louisiana.

I started with this lightweight blouse (similar one here) and paired it with my middle layer–the plaid shirt, which had a similar color palette. Plus, this plaid shirt is literally named “Layer Up Top,” so you know it’s perfect for layering if worn unbuttoned! Depending on how cool (or not cool) it is or how bulky you’d like your layers to be, you could skip the middle or top layer or mix and match. For my top and coziest layer, I chose this “Vanilla Bean Dream Cardigan” for its ivory color and longer length.

To complete you’re outfit, pair this look with some brown ankle booties, boyfriend jeans, and a mustard yellow circle scarf for a pop of color (and mostly because I’m a huge fan of  mustard yellow in the autumn!).

Be sure to check out all of Modcloth’s sweaters, cardigans, and outerwear to find your perfect fall layering pieces!

What are your favorite items to layer this time of year? Are you as excited for plaid’s comeback as I am?
